Now that the year is drawing to an end, it’s a good time to reflect on the biggest things that happened in tech this year. Also, the things we can look forward to in 2014.
NSA, Privacy, and the Cloud
One of the biggest stories of 2013 was the cloud and privacy, or lack thereof.

Privacy concerns are only going to grow. This is a serious problem and thanks to the Internet has brought the attention to mainstream America.
Closely related, what can we do from a security perspective will be a key focus in the IT industry.
As anyone who shopped at Target this past holiday season can attest to, as a consumer, any business transaction done online is still a huge risk.
Moving forward in 2014, what systems can we have in place to prevent this situation from repeating?
Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer’s Exit
In case you missed it, here’s Ballmer’s emotional exit speech:

Love him or hate him, you have to respect the guy for all his accomplishments.
But for all the glory Windows XP and Xbox 360 got, his legacy will also be tainted with the Surface RT, Office 365 (specifically in relation to Exchange 2013), and Windows 8.
I finally picked up a Windows 8.1 touch screen laptop and I actually like it. There’s still a chance Microsoft turns this all around.
But the key is can we ever trust Microsoft as a channel partner or any channel partner?
The trend has already started, and in 2014 will only continue to grow. With BYOD (bring your own device), a billion cloud services, and legacy systems, the solution provider that’s able to design the best system will be in high demand.
BYOD, Cloud, PCs
People’s and businesses’ choice of computer systems will continue to fragment. Now in a business environment, you will have to manage not only Windows, but OSX, Android, and IOS.
Perhaps Chrome OS is a glimpse of the future OS.
Whereby it won’t matter which operating system you use, since everything is accessed through a browser basically.
Well that’s it, from Intelinet, we hope everyone has a happy and healthy new year!
